A scattered (stepping-stone) holiday is one that lands on a weekday like Tuesday or Thursday, with both adjacent days being regular workdays. The holiday gives you one day off, but no long weekend forms naturally.

  • Tuesday holidayThe preceding Monday is a workday. Take Monday off as PTO and Sat-Sun-Mon-Tue becomes a 4-day weekend.
  • Thursday holidayThe following Friday is a workday. Take Friday off as PTO and Thu-Fri-Sat-Sun becomes a 4-day weekend.
